State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), the investment management arm of State Street Corporation (NYSE: STT) and the largest institutional fund manager in the world, today announced the opening of its Amsterdam office at the World Trade Centre at Schiphol Airport. SSgA has been serving clients in the Benelux region through its operations in Brussels since the early 1990s. SSgA's newest office will serve as a satellite to its Brussels operation, and will focus on sales and relationship management. SSgA provides investment solutions to more than 100 sophisticated Dutch institutional clients, including pension funds, insurance companies, banks and other asset managers, as well as third-party distributors such as fund-of-funds, private banks and brokers. Its disciplined and systematic investment solutions span virtually every asset class, capitalization, region and style. Today, the company ranks among the top five asset managers in the Dutch marketplace. "SSgA is a global company that recognizes the importance of having a local presence, which is why we have continued to expand our business here over the past 18 years," said Robert Rijlaarsdam, vice president and head of SSgA in Amsterdam. "The ratio of pension assets per capita in the Netherlands is one of the highest in Europe, and some of the small and mid-sized plans - traditionally clients of domestic players - are now seeking foreign asset managers' services. This further underscores the importance of having a physical presence in the Netherlands." "To sustain its growth, SSgA continues to expand its business globally, and particularly across Europe," said Benoît Fally, SSgA managing director for the Benelux and the Nordic countries. "The Netherlands is home to some of the most sophisticated pension plans, many of which are our clients. In fact, our Dutch clients are the most innovative and proactive in working with us to design and implement state-of-the-art investment solutions." In addition to its asset management activities, State Street also serves the Dutch institutional market with a broad range of services, including custody, fund accounting, regulatory reporting and performance and analytics. State Street opened its investor services office in Amsterdam in 2004 and since then, the company has built a strong foothold in the region. Its team of local professionals provides services for some of the largest and most sophisticated global investors.
